DIS-EASE

Disease, virus, human pandemic

The halls and walls are silent on campus these days after the worldwide call for a full-scale quarantine. My mop and bucket routine has always been a solitary occupation, but it does seem strange to be mopping up after the last students fled the onslaught of those invisible microbes several days ago.

Perhaps, in this period of isolation, one may carve out the time to step back from the fear of INFECTION and move toward a state of SELF-REFLECTION. Perhaps every time one blows their nose, wipes their ass or washes their hands they might ask themselves what lingering, unresolved mental infections are still running feverishly through their mind, enslaving them, depriving them of mental peace?

Now if some of you are having trouble making this psychological turn, I would suggest you stand in front of a mirror, hold your gaze, take a slow empty-headed breath and then ask yourself a very simple question –

“AM I A VIRUS, TOO?”

Viruses have a handful of primary characteristics: 1) attachment; 2) penetration; 3) uncoating; 4) replication; 6) release.

Metaphorically speaking, I’m sure you can see how many of these characteristics mirror Human behavior. That said, why not reflect upon these coded parallels while you’re in a state of limbo? Just ask yourself-

To whom or what am I attached to?

Whom am I penetrating at the moment? And we’re not just talking about what goes on in the bedroom or the backseat of a car. More to the point, whom are you trying to assert your will over at the current moment, be it at home, the workplace or among friends?

As for uncoating, well, let’s not shy away from picking that scab. You Humans are, for the most part, resistant to change – and yet, the only way the Human state of Being can keep a vicious history from repeating itself is to embrace transmutation – to start chiseling away the selfish “I/Me” veneer that ultimately suffocates the soul.

Replication? Well, Humans are incredibly prolific when it comes to habits, addictions and co-dependencies. Can’t we just acknowledge these as viral tendencies and work on the antidote

Finally, we have release – which in the Coronavirus’ case, translates to global pandemic. Putting this viral characteristic into Human terms, I must ask you -- how often does the need for dominance (political, economic, religious, societal) overwhelm the need for human connection? How often have those “needs” become the trigger for war and violence to inflict itself upon your lives?

I know I’m just a Custodian, but I’ve stated the obvious from the get-go -- and you can quote me

“Human History needs to stop repeating itself. All it takes is a thorough cleaning.”

Maybe it’s finally happening….?

Maybe now, in that state of self-reflection, some of you will catch a glimpse of that universal wonder known as The Unified Field.

I hope so.
